Version 3.5.4 broke SMB username and password login on Android

I've been using VLC to play files on my local SMB shared folder, which requires a password and login.

In previous versions, the first time I selected the SMB in VLC, I would be asked for a username and password. But in the new version there is no such prompt. Instead, it just says the SMB is empty.

Could you please share some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

Hello

Seems to be the same issue for me:

I am trying to access my notebook newly formatted Windos 10 smb share, but when I use the VLC app, I don't receive a prompt for login/password.

Problem is happening with both android devices: Samsung Tab A7 and Samsung S20 FE 5G Snapdragon.

I am using the same notebook that was working before I formatted.

The trick is... if I access shared files with Solid Explorer, for instance, I can input my login/pass and I can access the files normally and even play movies through it with VLC (Solid Explorer working as a streaming client for the VLC app).

I know the problem is with VLC, as it is not prompting me for the user and pass.

I have disabled the smb1 option, re-installed twice on both devices, restarded all devices, but it simply will not work natively after the new Windows 10 install (mostly clean, I only installed drives, Tixati and MS Office 2021, nothing else!).

Is there a solution?

Same for me. I can access my server just fine from my Android tablet or from the firesticks using network explorer. I can then play the files using VLC. The weird thing for me is that vlc is working fine on one of my devices but not the other 3. I assume that it is somehow still "logged in" since it appears to have the same version

Just to update, my VLC 3.4.2 in my Android TV is also doing the same thing, but I didn't test with file explorers.

The server is named DESKTOP-JEHP3M1

I had to upload the log to another website, as I couldn't paste here.

I think i have found a solution to this problem, I fixed it by enabling SMB 1.0 / CIFS Client and Server from Windows features, and i restarted VLC and when I tried to open network location it finally asked username and password, it finally works.

CAUTION enable SMB1 on Windows on your own risk, as far i understand it is not very secure.

Please fix VLC so it works with SMB 3 and asks credentials when needed.

This has also worked for me. After enabling SMB 1.0 / CIFS Client and Server from Windows features, I was able to get a password prompt and login in. I chose the option to remember my login information. I then went into Windows and disabled SMB 1.0 / CIFS Client and Server and I was still able to use VLC to access my files from Windows. I think you just need to enable SMB 1.0 / CIFS Client and Server from Windows features to be able to get prompt to login and then are able to disable it and it should still work.

Hey, comrades, common!
App still not working on Android OS.
MX Player work normally so it's some problems in your app code
When you will fix it?

It's been more than half a year since you said you were "looking into it". Meanwhile a bunch of other's have complained about the same issue, and even let you know precisely how to fix it. Any hopes of seeing it fixed in the next decade or so?
