VLC 3.5.3 breaks jellyfin compatibility on Android.

Postby therealpsyduck » 16 Dec 2022 20:56

VLC will instantly close once jellyfin tries to pass it a video. Not sure what is going on. I have allowed permissions to access storage.

I had to revert to VLC 3.5.2 in order to use with Jellyfin. It will now open and play videos sent from Jellyfin.

Same issue here with 3.5.4 Beta 1

Are you passing a stream URL, or going through the DLNA listing in the local network part of VLC-Android ?

It's passing a stream url such as:

http://192.168.111.10:4321/jellyfin/Ite ... a9f6010a77

But the weird thing is that when going through the jellyfin app, it will try to load VLC and then close automatically. But I am able to copy the stream url and enter it into the VLC app manually and it will play fine.

This is due to a limitation when targeting Android 13. We've made some improvements in the next release (3.5.4) but it may need some other changes in jellyfin as well. We had a discussion about that here if you're interested: https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... ssues/2776
