Audio not appearing on top of screen

I looked in recents and haven't found a topic for this one so this may be new from the recent fixes

So I'll give an example on this as I'm not sure this is written clearly:

I have an audiobook that in mp3 form on my phone on VLC Media Player, Dune, the original, and when I play it, before I was getting a notification of it playing in my pull down menu on my phone as well as on my lock screen

On nightly build I believe this still works. Actually, it had the best setup I'd seen so far, where it gave a lockscreen where you could go back 10 seconds, which is perfect for stuff like podcasts or audiobooks. On the pull-down menu it shows you what you are listening to, the ability to pause or play it, as well as to click next or back, or to hold down the next or back buttons to fast forward or rewind

On the current VLC player, not the nightly, when I play any audio/mp3 I no longer have any of these things. I have to open the app up specifically

Did something change where this feature went away, or is it perhaps under menu where it can he enabled again?

You can send photo to imgur.com and then share them here. What is your "current version" of VLC?

You can't attach files on the forum, please use a third party hosting site like https://postimages.org or https://imgur.com

Hmm...ive heard RC3 and VLC 3.5.0 before and I always thought they were the same thing.

Is it...not?

I pulled up the details page for my VLC and it looks like it is. I apologize, my brain is just trying to understand

You probably disabled VLC notifications somewhere in your system. I tested the notification with multiple devices running the VLC 3.5.0 release and the notification is working great. You should verify in the system settings under Apps > VLC (the orange one) > Notifications > "Playback" should be checked.

Oh, wait, that's fixed, but I did find a small bug after checking that it works

If you play an audio, and go to lockscreen>pause the audio>then click to go back 10 seconds

You'll notice that the audio does not go back 10 seconds

If you click play again it will progress right from where you're at

I tried going back 10 seconds many times to be sure, and as long as you are on pause, it will not do so

You have to be specifically on the lock screen for it to do this on your phone

Oh, and apologies for the big emojis, anytime I put an emoji, it looks regular on my end, but appears huge here.

Mainly was laughing at the fact that I mustve somehow blocked myself from notifications and thought it was an issue. So...ended up making more of a fuss over something that was my own fault, so was laughing at myself

Yes, there is a synchronization issue when playback position is changed from media session controls while playback is paused. The 10 second skip buttons should be disabled when you pause playback though. Are you seeing white icons even when paused or do they become shaded? If you tap the icon do you see any indication of a button press event? What Android version are you running?

Glad you found the audiobook mode! How's it working for you? Do you have m4b files with chapter names set?

Ah...so it's NOT supposed to go back or forward 10 seconds when paused? Gotcha

That's odd to me as I would think pausing would be when you usually would go backwards or forwards

It's alright though

The button press and shading don't seem to be coming up for me oddly enough

https://imgur.com/a/BZKgf84

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10. Not sure what android version would be

And thank you! I do love listening to audiobooks on VLC. I haven't done chapter names, may...consider that, right now mainly I've just been remember what timestamp I left off at

Chapters is a good idea though

I like being able to have stuff offline and not attached to an app, so being able to listen through VLC is excellent

Is your car capable of going 100 yards backward or forward if the engine is stopped?

No!
So vlc can not go 10s backward or forward if the player is stopped...
( hitting pause button stopped the player service so....)

Dude, other apps do allow you to go back 10 seconds when paused, does everyone know that VLC cannot? No

So can you take your rude attitude somewhere else please

The analogy doesn't work. Of course a car can't move if stopped. (Ignore rolling downhill, collisions, etc.) However, the concept of picking up a stopped car and moving it 100 yards is meaningful. Likewise, moving the play point 10 sec is meaningful and might be useful even if the medium is paused.
