Why is VLC Android (v 3.4.4 that I have) unable to play DTS HD MA 7.1 correctly on nVidia Shield 9.0.1?

It plays True HD 7.1 and DTS HD MA 5.1, but not DTS HD MA 7.1 without dropping to DTS 5.1 after some seconds. Is that a known limitation or bug? I think I read some other user mentioning this somewhere else. The nVidia Shield is able play that on other apps.
