Access remote NAS from Firestick

HI,

I have a Buffalo Linkstation with an external attached USB drive that I can access from outside my home network via "buffalonas.com". DLNA, SFTP services are both enabled on it. I believe I should similarly be able to access/stream content remotely (i.e. across the internet when outside my local network) from the NAS using VLC on my Firestick.

Could someone given me a pointer on how to do this please? Streaming whilst on the local network (using SMB) works fine.
