swipe navigation - how to close player?

Postby bradwww » 08 Feb 2022 05:47

hi
i have a pixel 4a phone and am playing videos in full screen mode or casting.
my phone does not have the nav buttons on the bottom as Android has moved forward to swipe navigation.
when i try to swipe to return from full screen playback to the list of files there is no reaction from the app other than to jump forward or back in the video file.
how to i exit full screen playback mode with a swipe navigation device?
other android video players such as xplayer have a left arrow button on the upper left corner that takes you back to the menu - is there an option for this in VLC that i cannot find?
thanks much for your help!

Did you try to do it twice?

For me, if you tap the screen, the controls appear. On my devices with on-screen Android buttons, they appear too.

I can also dismiss VLC by swiping to the end of the video (unless Repeat is on).

i see controls but no back arrow in the upper left corner. am i using the wrong version? it is VLC latest from app store. playing a video to the end was something i tried as well - shows a black screen and controls and just sits there. thanks!

Could you share a screencast of the issue?

here you go
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ui016b7yjvqug ... t.mp4?dl=0
yesterday i was swiping from the edge over and over and it only changed the position in the video.
today i am swiping once from the edge and it changes position - the second swipe is returning to the file list.
you can see the swipe happening from the left edge.
at the end i show there is no left arrow in the upper left corner to return to the menu - but here is a shot of xplayer which does have the arrow:

all i am asking is how to return to the file list from full screen video playback on android reliably?
thanks!

This is due to a recent change in Android. See https://developer.android.com/about/ver ... provements

There is definitely some improvements to do on our part for that. I already took a look and we can greatly improve the behavior easily, but it will need some work and tests.

Your issue is now tracked here: https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... ssues/2381

ok thanks! but please do consider an optional on-screen arrow to return to the menu that displays only when other controls display - in my mind that is simpler than trying to determine the intent of an edge swipe and is more consistent with other full screen apps.
