VLC 3.3.4 Cannot close app when swiping up, media history rememered when turned off, cannot disable play/resume of song

Postby Demolishun » 17 Nov 2021 16:44

I have 3 problems:

1. Cannot turn app off completely on Android 11. I swipe up and it still shows app in swipe down menu and shows last song played. Supposedly there should not be ANY vlc open at this point.
2. The last song played is remembered no matter what I set the history settings to. I don't want it to remember the last song or playlist ever.
3. It plays the last song even if history disabled, app killed, restart the phone when I press button on headset. I don't want vlc to do anything, especially if it isn't running when I touch a button on my headset. The only way I can find to fix this is to go into vlc settings, clear all history and cache and use that menu to force restart the app. This is a ridiculous amount of things to do to clear the history. I don't want apps doing things when I haven't told it to run.

I tried another app called "Music Player". Even after forced stop it will play the last song when pressing the headset button. So that part of this post sounds like it is a "feature" of Android 11. I will see if I can solve that another way.

The fact that vlc "remembers" a song despite having history turned off is a completely different problem.

I am not sure I understand your problems.

1. Swiping an app from the recent list doesn't kill it. It's the way Android works. But we have a setting to stop the playback when you do that: Settings > Audio > Stop on application swipe.
2 and 3. This is indeed an Android 11 feature. There is nothing we can do here.

And there's also Settings > Interface (subhead Audio) > Show last playlist tip. Turn that off too and there will be no hint what you were listening to.

Thanks for the info. I had the show last playlist tip turned off. Even when I kill the app through apps menu in settings of phone, and then press media button, it will play last song on its own. If I explicitly clear the media database and clear playback history in the Advanced section in settings of VLC, and then kill the app it will not play the last song. VLC even when killed will "remember" last played song unless I use the clear functions in the settings of vlc. So vlc is hanging on to the last played song despite history being turned off.

Just tested this out again:
1. played song.
2. closed app.
3. explicitly killed app via os.
4. press media button on headset and it played last song
5. went into settings advanced cleared media database and clear playback history
6. close app
7. killed app
8. press media button on headset and os tries to start vlc (shows in bar shown on home screen when you swipe down), but no media remembered so nothing to play

I want 8 to be the behavior of vlc when I close it. I shouldn't have to clear the database or history if history is turned off. I also shouldn't have to kill the app for it to forget things. I have deleted files from the phone and vlc still has the song in memory until I kill the app. That is really strange behavior.

I agree, if you have unchecked history and the playlist tip, then disable VLC sufficiently to stop play, it should take care to remember nothing no matter how restarted.

Maybe this next week I will take a look at the code, figure out how to build it from source, and patch it. I think I isolated the problem enough to figure this out. Hopefully it is not a framework or api issue with google.

I just took a look and found out what is happening. The issue is now tracked here: https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... issues/225 and a fix available here: https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... uests/1164

FYI my fix for that is causing a lot of issues. I'll have to rework it in a better way in a different setting.
