Authentication issues on Android TV

Hope someone can help.

I have a TV which has Android TV build in. I have a Nvidia shield set up which I use as a media server. Every other device in the house can access the shield (infuse on iOS and VLC on Android) but no matter what I try I can’t get the VLC on the Android TV to access the shield.

It just repeatedly asks for username and password. I know the details are correct but it won’t authenticate.

I’ve deleted the app and redownloaded. Reset the Android TV. Reset the router. Changed the password for the shield but nothing works.

Can anyone suggest what I could try next?

How do you try to access it? With what protocol? SMB?

I've tried several, smb, ftp, same issue with all.

Could you please provide some logs?
Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

Issue has either not been fix or has popped up again. VLC is driving me crazy. "Authentication required..." over and over. Exactly the same scenario with all the same attempts to resolve the issue. I have VLC for Android installed on Google Chromecast with Google TV. I am trying to use is to watch video on my laptop which is running Windows 10, as well as some other network storage. All are on the same network and, most of the time it works perfectly. Frequently, however, it gets into "authentication required..." loops and "can't play multiple media" and "no media found".
