Yet another authentication problem - I think

I rely on the adagium that there are no stupid questions... My problem is this: my partner and I both have the exact same Android smartphone with the exact same version of VLC. I have no trouble accessing our LAN and and a PC containing music etc. But when I try my partners phone, the little wheel keeps spinning endlessly - no questions asked, no error message.
I can't find an option to see, let alone alter, the login data. What can I do?

My best guess is that your partner's phone does not have the permission to use the LAN that your phone has. The options are not set within VLC. If trying to use WiFi, Android should intervene with a pop-up asking for password. But LANs can be set up to not broadcast their existence, and to grant access only to specific devices.

Could you please provide some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

There's also a filemanager app on the phone. It asked for credentials (long ago) and now accesses the Windows computer (Mediaserver) with no problem. When I set the option 'use external player' it brings up VLC which then plays the file! (Not a solution, though; to find the right file I really need the Mediaserver.)
I retrieved the log; it's available here:

Thanks a lot for your help!
