I'm unable to playback 4K MKVs via SMB - the performance is really bad, lots of dropped frames and slowdowns.
(This is with the default "Hardware Acceleration" set to "Automatic". None of the other options improve the situation, however.)

The same file plays great when casting from my Windows PC to Chromecast with Google TV using Airflow (which supports 4K H.265 casting without reencoding).

Device: Google Sabrina, Android TV OS version 10, security patch level December 5, 2020 (latest), Kernel 4.9.180, Tue Dec 22 13:17:56 UTC 2020
VLC: Fresh install from Google Play, version 3.3.4, revision 13e15aa9d VLC: 38efa6451 (2021-01-20)
File tested: the.lord.of.the.rings.the.fellowship.of.the.ring.2001.extended.2160p.uhd.bluray.x265-boredor.sample.mkv

Still an issue with VLC for Android 3.4.1 Beta 3 (arm-v7a)

I have opened an issue at https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc- ... ssues/2213

I had the same issue even:
- Without SMB (I get a 10 minutes file and I save it on CCwGT internal memory)
- If I use another application (like Kodi, FX Explorer) to play it

So I suspect it's a problem with CCwGT and its ability to decode. But I read other boxes with same CPU can do it just fine.

Google support is useless and told me to contact VLC. So here I am

Hopefully the VLC devs will address this in the GitLab issue I opened (link above)
A "workaround" is to cast the file from the airflow.app which also confirms CCwGT hardware supports decoding this.

I am not familiar with it. IS something I can do with an Android or a Windows?
IT doesn't decode the video when sending it?

It's a program for PC/Mac with a free trial. It can cast H.265 to CCwGT without reencoding (they call it "native playback").
