Chromecast and hi-res audio problems

For years I've been using VLC for Android to cast music from my DNLA server to a Chromecast Audio without problems. Now I finally got round to buying some music in the form of 96/24 quality FLAC's. At first they didn't seem to play, but then I accidentally noticed that they do play, but start with a delay of up to 25s! And sometimes I have to stop-start multiple times. Especially for a CD-like series of files this is of course very annoying :-)
Can anyone explain this; is it a bug in VLC? Has anyone experience with casting 96/24 flac files?
BTW, as the DNLA server is in fact a windows computer, VLC also allows me to access the files directly, bypassing the DNLA-server. This makes no difference.

PS: Only at the first try I often get an errormessage: 'The file [...] can not be played'.

Could ou please provide some logs?
Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

I think I know what my prblem was: the flac files surreptitiously contained 5 audio-channels. This was apparently too much fro the ChromeCast Audio to handle. Since I converted (or rather: transcoded) them to stereo they play quite well (in 96/24 format).
