Unable to access OTG Asus dvd drive

Just bought an Asus sdrw-08u7m-u zendrive to use with a Samsung S6 tablet running Android 10. Connecting via OTG and trying to play .wav files using VLC 3.3.2

Other storage shows up and is ok but the OTG device icon has no label and when I choose it the following message box appears:

Allow OTG access

Please select your OTG drive to allow access to VLC.
OK

(The offset OK is in red)

Nothing happens even if I click the OK...

ANY answers, thoughts or clues gratefully received. Mike.

This is no more than a "clue." I too have an ASUS USB DVD drive and have not been able to use it via On The Go with my (much cheaper) Samsung J3 and J7 phones. I guess that lack of support is an Android problem.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Spot on, in that android OTG doesn't recognise the asus drives. In fact it seems Hitachi LG are the only option.
I hope so because I've put one on back order!
Will update when I can confirm actual result.
Mike

I have not had a problem with any usb drive connected via an OTG cable on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S10+, Note 20 Ultra and not even on my little $50 Moto E4.. I do not own any asus drives but will certainly stay away from them in the future. However, I disagree with the comment stating that only Hitachi LG are the only options as all of my Sandisk Ultras work fine, as does my portable 500GB WD SSD and my 2TB Seagate Firecuda HDD in an external enclosure. But I'll be sure to stay away from Asus.. so thanks for the heads up!!
