MKV files restart from beginning at random (on Sony Bravia TV)

I've been using VLC on my Sony Bravia TV for a year now with NO problems. I love it. It has been running perfectly and has been a pleasure to use. SUDDENLY however a week or so ago it began restarting mkv files back to the beginning of the video file at random points during the playback that was in progress. I have changed NONE of the app's settings over that course of time on the TV though there are, essentially, only limited VLC settings available to the user on the TV platform. I thought maybe it was related to the use of subtitles but switching subs on & off had no effect. A search about the internet indicates that others have encountered this same random-restart problem with VLC but with no solution being offered for someone using the TV app. (at least none that I could find.) One suggested fix elsewhere (on this forum) appears only apply to VLC on a PC platform which, obviously, does not apply to me. (they mention settings pertaining to Matroska 'ordered chapters' and 'chapter codecs'. Such settings are not available on the TV app for me to try.) Also, the mkv files being played are being streamed from HDD storage elsewhere via my local WiFi network which, as far as I know, doesn't have any network throughput issues that I'm aware of. (Other video streaming internet content (i.e. Amazon prime video, Youtube,) works fine, no issues. And no indication of any buffering or 'pixelation' either. So what causes VLC to start from the beginning?
Has anyone encountered this SAME specific problem on the Android TV platform AND come up with a viable solution? Any suggestions for settings pertaining to VLC Android-TV usage would be most appreciated. (my apologies if my explanation is unclear.)
