Audio lag issue with bluetooth earphones

Hi all
I've been experiencing a significant audio lag when using my Samsung Galaxy Buds earphones. Now, before you jump to quick conclusions about all bluetooth earphones having this lag, please continue reading. I have tested the video/audio sync using Youtube and even MX Player (for the same videos that I played through VLC) - none of them had any lag with Samsung Galaxy Buds. So, this looks like I have an issue with VLC only. This happens and I have tested it both on my Android phone and Windows 10 laptop. In both cases, the audio is lagging when playing the video through VLC, but no lag when playing the same video through MX Player (on Android) or playing a random video on Youtube (on Android or Windows 10 PC).
I have tried to change almost every setting in the VLC player to try to get to the bottom of this (e.g. no hardware acceleration, etc.), but to no avail. Any ideas? Suggestions?
Many thanks!
