Poor Network Streaming Performance

I have just installed VLC 3.1.7 on my Android Box, connected to my TV, so that I could access my network media library (mp4). This is done through WiFi I have no issues with streaming over this connectionwith other applications.
VLC hasno problem connecting to the network and accessing the media. But the playability is abysmal. The constant buffering makes any library accessed media impossible to watch. Often times the pictures just freezes while audio continues, the audio will cut out and ome back but the picture still frozen. Eventually, the picture will simply update, no movement though. Rarely do I encounter the spinning cone.
Are there any solutions to improve network based media viewing? Hardware acceleration is set to "Automatic". This seems to be theonly video setting that could have any effect on streaming.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have always depended on VLC for media playing and I fear being disappointed without some solution.
