How to add path to download information about movies

Hi,
in other apps like Archos player, there is a possibility, that the app automatically download pictures and information about a movie.
In the VLCplayer there is such an option, but if I want to add the path of my disk station where the movies are saved, it don't accepts this. There is just an option to type there a IP address and I if type the right IP address VLCplayer don't accept it.
Can someone help and tell me if it is possible to type there a IP address and the right format?
