How to play Youtube videos in VLC?

Hi, I have been trying to play YouTube videos in VLC on my Android Tablet (Lenovo Yoga Book running Android 7.1). The VLC Help page says there should be a "Stream" option under the hamburger menu. I don't appear to have this option, although there's is an "Open MRL" option. Whenever I try to paste a YouTube link into the MRL address it tells me the link cannot be played.
I am using VLC for Android version 3.0.13. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Ivor,
If you are still having this issue, can you post a few screen shots? One of your menu once you click on the hamburger, one of the about page, one of you pasting the youtube link, and one of the error result?

VLC version: 3.0.91
PROBLEM: VLC gives an error message when you try to stream a YouTube video via URL
ATTEMPTED TO FIX/RESOLVE Issue by copying the latest youtube.lua script file into the folder /data/data/org.videolan.vlc/app_vlc/.share/lua/playlist/youtube.lua
