When Google Maps gives me directions in navigation mode, the volume of the music playing in VLC reduces as it should, but the audio from Google Maps also reduces in volume. As a result, I'm unable to hear turn-by-turn navigation instructions as long as music is playing in VLC. It's as if VLC is muting both itself and Google Maps. This issue doesn't occur with any of my other apps.

That's a complicated issue with VLC. (which is solved by Android 8 btw)
The only way to respect maps/waze navigation is to pause VLC because they don't use the correct channel :/
