Support for DTSon Sony Android TV

Postby nicolaidenmark » 15 Mar 2018 12:00

I have ripped my Blu-rays to lossless MKVs using MakeMKV and signed up for Plex in order to have a media server.

Thing is, I want absolute non touched, BD quality and it seems VLC for Sony Smart TVs and not handle DTS or HD audio?

When will this be fixed? I want to direct play from Plex as this leaves the quality untouched, thanks.

Every time my films have DTS tracks, I get the not support message?

I have no idea what you are talking about, tbh. What support message?

Hi!

I am experiencing the same problem.
I am testing a MKV video on my Sony TV. It has two audio tracks, one with Dolby Digital 5.1 and the other with DTS 5.1.
When I reproduce it with the Sony Video App I can see the correct format in my sound equipment, DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1, depending on the audio track I choose.
Nevertheless, when I use VLC for Android 3.0.4, neither of the audio tracks output 5.1 sound, I only receive PCM 2.0.

If 5.1 sound is supported, what could be the problem?

Thank you!

So, you want passthrough for your decoder?

Thank you for the suggestion!
Nevertheless, I cannot find that option in VLC preferences... I can only see "audio output", and choosing both "audio track" or "OpenSL ES" gives the same result... PCM 2.0.

This is in my VLC from my Android TV.
From my VLC in my mobile phone I can see "audio passthrough" in the "casting" section, but this does not appear in the Android TV options.

Could you please tell me if I am missing something?

Thank you!

Passthrough option is not available if you set OpenSLES.

Thank you for the information Dekans!

VLC has been updated in my Sony Android TV to 3.0.5, and now I can see the option for Audio Passthrough.
I cannot be certain, but I would have sweared that that option was not there in 3.0.4 version.

Anyway, when I check audio passthrough with "audio track", still only PCM 2.0 audio is output...
Can you tell me something else to test?
The video app from the Sony TV still outputs correctly 5.1 audio with both audio tracks...

Thank you for your help!
