Radio stream issues since 2.5.12 update

Postby wrh2005 » 04 Dec 2017 19:57

The recent update seems to have caused significant issues for me playing back internet radio streams.

I'm in the UK and have a playlist of various local and national stations the vast majority being in mp4 format or AAC/+, and are in various bit rates from 56k all the way up to 320k for the BBC ones.

Before the update I've never had so much as a single issue with them.

Some streams are better than others, and sometimes I one will randomly work correctly, but mostly it's broken.

The result sounds very much like a broken cd stuttering and jerking back and fourth, the 8 o'clock news this morning was hilarious.

Anyway the particulars:

VLC Version: 2.5.12
My Phone: Samsung S7 edge
My Android version : 7.0

I also had VLC do some logging, I'll post the more interesting bit since you probably don't want the whole log.

Code: Select all

The no sync on following frame thing happens a lot during it spluttering about.

Interestingly enough this is one of the Absolute radio streams, 64k aac+ and these are by far the worst. If there is anything else I can do to help my to help you let me know.

Can you share those links?
The urls for the radio stations?

Aye.

http://aacplus-a6-64.timlradio.co.uk/
http://aacplus-a7-64.timlradio.co.uk/
http://aacplus-a8-64.timlradio.co.uk/

http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbc ... 2b620f481a
http://media-ice.musicradio.com:80/SmoothUK

This is just five of them, I'm not allowed to post any more than that. But these are the main ones I listen to and the one's I've had issues with.

The website radiofeeds.co.uk is the source of most of the urls I use for UK radio, save the BBC ones which I had to do a lot of digging for.

Confirmed, I also have issues with both versions 2.5.12 and VLC-Android-2.5.11-20171205-0246-ARMv7 with AAC and MP3 streams.

And this is a regression as it was working fine with previous versions.

It's quite strange because I've done many tests and it looks like only British streams are affected by this issue.
I've tried AAC, MP3, OGG Vorbis and FLAC streams from various countries and they are all playing fine but the British ones (both AAC and MP3).

However they are still playing fine with other players I've tried (e.g. foobar2000 and 1by1).
It might also be a blocked user agent issue.

Thanks for taking this up.

I just noticed today these streams below seem to be working fine. I wonder what's different about these?

http://icy-e-bl-03-gos.sharp-stream.com:8000/heat.aac
http://icy-e-bz-01-gos.sharp-stream.com ... gic828.aac

They're like local stations for me.

Notice: the same behaviour is occuring with VLC desktop on Windows whilst the same streams are playing fine with other players.

I'm afraid they have blocked VLC, doesn't matter which OS it's running on.

On my Windows PC I'm running VLC 2.2.4 and all the streams are working just fine as of the time of this post. So there must be another answer there somewhere.

The playlist used on my PC is the exact same one I play on the phone. Same urls the lot.

Clear regression from 3.0.

There's no regression.
Some urls redirect to an empty 1 byte "nonuk.mp3"
All other streams are working.
:!: If you want your problem to be solved :
* First read troubleshooting guide VSG:Main
* Always provide verbose LOGS ! (command line or from gui)
* Always check your issue against a developer build from Nightly Build of VLC
* Tell us when your problem is solved !

The only broken one, and the regression is the stream which isn't mentioned anywhere except in logs

Some urls redirect to an empty 1 byte "nonuk.mp3"

You're getting this error message because you're not in the UK.
But he is in the UK, so it's working fine for him.

ais.absoluteradio.co.uk/absolute80smed.aac

This is playing fine with foobar2000, AIMP, 1by1 and FFplay.
But not with VLC.

Hi,

I can't find any nightly build dated after Dec 11th.
when 2.5.14 version should be available ?
I have the issue too with this kind of stream :

Just to give you some follow up feedback, as of 2.5.17 all my radio streams are working again once more. Thanks for fixing, everything else I do is working just fine also so I have no further issues to report.

With any luck I'll not need to post here again, but if something breaks in the future I'll be back. ;)

It's the same for me with 2.5.17. All is fine.
Thanks.
I didn't succeed to load the nightly builds by the way.
