VLC 2.1.19 with Android Auto Does Not Find Media

VLC 2.1.19 when used on my LG phone works great. VLC finds all of my files across all directories both internal and on SD card. When I connect to Android Auto, VLC no longer works and reports no media found.

Do you use Android Auto interface on your phone or is your car compatible?

Possibly related, based on the date this was reported: "custom directory can't be found (Oreo?)"
