Add a custom path "no such directory" and No preview icon in directories

Ok, there's Video, Audio, Directories and History. If I go to Directories, there are no preview pictures like the Video directory has...

to rectify this issue, I thought to add the custom path to the folder for the Video directory, well when I type in the Directory, it says, "The directory " " not found"

I've tried a slew of different ways of finding the location path and nothing works. all I have to do to find storage is type "storage" but I cannot find the Downloads folder from my SD Card...

Androids changed ways / restrictions to access extrenal SD cards?
(Several times changed since Android 4.3.)
