Auto Play all files in a folder sequentially without user intervention

Postby CidiRome » 17 Sep 2016 11:25

Hi.

I believe that VLC is one of the best video players, I've been using it on windows for years but when I started using it on android I become a little disappointed...

I can't find a way to do a thing that seems pretty straightforward:

I want to start VLC at boot without user intervention, for that I used "Auto Start";
I want VLC to play all playable files that exist in a folder without user intervention eg: /storage/extSdCard/videos;
It should repeat and start over again at the end;
On next boot is possible that the files are not the same (a pen or sdcard that is changed from time to time);

It wouldn't be important that it would remember the last file played or it's position, could be an option if other users find it valuable;
It also wouldn't be important if it plays sub-folder files or not, could also be an option;
About file order, not very important, but should play alphabetically.

I've been investigating the command line and can start it with
adb shell monkey -p org.videolan.vlc -c android.intent.category.LAUNCHER 1
but I'm not being able to give a direct order to play a folder with repeat on.

Can somebody help me or point me into a software that can, preferably a free one.

Cheers.

I quite agree; how come something as basic as this is omitted?
In addition, I'd like to tick off all the titles I'd like to add to a playlist, then name and store this list and just play it.
Now I have spent precious time searching for this basic feature, which is too hidden away if it's there. No user manual on the app itself either?
The only option is to have some playlist created elsewhere? Not good enough. I can only play song by song using the app, which is too stupid. Surely this cannot have been intended by a pro team like VLC's?

Regards,
S

I think this might answer part of your post. To play all vids in a folder:
Android:
start VLC,
in my LG K10 it then opens to directories
select folder with vids you want to play
press 3 dots next to 1st vid and select Play all
That's it! All vids play
PC:
start VLC,
select media/open folder
navigate to folder with vids you want to play
press select folder
That's it! All vids play
