VLC doesn't support multiple genres

It's said that VLC is compatible with ID3v2 and multiple genres are part of the ID3v2 standard since 16 years. That is a long time to learn about...

v2.3 expanded the frame identifier to four characters, and added a number of frames. A frame can contain multiple values, separated with a null byte. This is the most widely used version of ID3v2 tags.

Instead of associating tracks to multiple genre-lists VLC is offering bullshit like "Soul hip hop r&b".

Is there a way to get multiple genres working? (I tried out using tag CONTENTGROUP without success.)
