Cannot connect to SMB share - will not accept credentials

Just got VLC for Android 2.0 on my Galaxy S6 and Nvidia Shield TV, but I cannot connect to an SMB share. Both devices see the share, but after I provide credentials to connect, the prompt reappears. As recommended in the login window, I am providing credentials as follows:
Login: DOMAIN;username
Password: username's password
Tapping OK brings me back to the login window, but the username is stripped from the login field, leaving just the domain.
Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

try without the DOMAIN;
just your username

Hi Dekans - without the domain I get the same result.

What's the server, which is sharing this folder?

It's a Windows server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. The shares are accessible from PCs, and from Android devices (Samsung Galaxy S6 and Nvidia Shield TV) using X-Plore File Manager, EX File Explorer File Manager, and Total Commander.

I'm having the same issues, though with a full 2012 R2 server. Neither my Nexus 6 or Nexus 9 will connect and trying different combinations of domain and username, using ; and even the more standard \ and @, none have succeeded. User accounts with or without passwords also failed.
The same shares work perfectly well with Kodi on my devices (plus my OpenandELEC box), also my various file management apps, so the networking is fine.

Got a VLC update today from Google Play, but saw the version number is still 2.0.0, with no changelog provided, and SMB still does not work.

I also have a problem using server 2008 but with 2012 active directory. Other apps connect perfectly

Does it work with normal Windows, and not Windows Servers?

Works with shared folders in Windows 10. I confirmed that sharing and security permissions on the server are identical, and it still does not connect.

So Windows 10 works, but not Windows Server?
What about Windows 7?

Two questions I have about this are:
1. Why do I need to enter credentials to see the shares on my Windows Server 2012 R2? Browsing for SMB shares does not require authentication.
2. What is the format for the username, because the prompt states it's "domain;username" but when that fails it removes everything from the semi-colon on from the field? Using the more correct "domain\username" also fails but it doesn't change.
Actually another question, is there any kind of logging we can enable for the app to aid you in troubleshooting this problem?

I don't have any Windows 7 systems to test with. Sorry.

SMB is a huge mess, so it's hard to debug without wireshark.

We'll soon update to version 2.0.5, with some fixes for SMB.

Sorry, now on v2.0.5 and it's actually worse with the app hanging on some attempts to connect and needing to be force closed.

Sorry for that. We don't currently have a Windows Server 2012 R2 to reproduce and fix

Does this mean the bug will never be fixed?

Hello
here is my setup:
- Synology DS 713p (DSM 6) for the NAS with SMB share working fine with all type of device (windows/mac and linux
)
- Philips Android TV (lolipop 5) with VLC for Android (2.0.6) loaded
after installing the TV i try to access my NAS and failed on the login/credential.
after staying stuck during 10min (the control keyboard is quiet not so easy to use, so some time it was just a bad type issue). i got an idea and checked the SMB compatibility Version Protocol on the NAS server:
- by default it's SMBV2
- by downgrading it to V1, and restarted the service on the NAS and restarted VideoLan,
it work!
For those who want to try with a Windows Server (
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2696547) here is the KB for doing so.
while i'm not confortable to let the NAS in SMB V1 (lot of feature missing, but a lot of security issues also), it could allow VLC team to identify the issue.
Now, the surprise:
- now that the connection si cached/established, i reversed the SMB V1 to SMB V2
- And VLC can still access the files. (i restarted the nas)
If this can help.
Regards

Bonsoir
Just talking about the issue. it was on a Philips TV, i have replaced the TV by a Sony "Bravia 4k 2015" version 5.1.1 of android, and VLC2.0.6. And now i have still the issue.
AND the workarround i proposed don't work
i'm trying to do some test, to see if i can use smb with VLC on android.
Regards

Minix x7 vs windows server 2016(yea, a little dated now, but got to make it work)
Kodi could not login to a domain(wants a workgroup I guess) I get a "connection refused"
As a fix I decided to switch to VLC...it gets login screen(better than kodi) but all password attempts fail.
ES filemanager has no problem though. curently as a workaround I am using ES to launch files from the server, but would really like to get VLC doing it.
