Hang on attempt to scan or play MP3

VLC 1.1.2 (the most recent on the Play store, to my knowledge) is hanging when I attempt to go to a directory which contains a particular MP3 file, or when I double-click the file in a file manager and ask to open it with VLC.

I cannot get a log; VLC is not crashing, and if using the developer log the hang means I cannot get to the log screen (if I restart it seems to wipe anything that was gathered).

The file is this one.

The mp3 in question works fine on ES Media Player on Android and on Rhythmbox on a Linux box, and other mp3s (not from the NPR site) seem to work on VLC 1.1.2.

Any ideas why this MP3 is causing trouble?

I case it provides any clues, I got a log on Linux using VLC 2.1.4, which follows (it played the file, but there was a long delay of 20-30 seconds with the CPU pegged at 100% before it started, and I'm speculating that's not a coincidence)...
