addressing few issues

Postby ravenshadow » 28 Aug 2014 18:24

hello i want to address some issues regarding the vlc. i know you guys are doing a great job and i just wanted to help you guys by bringing it to the notice some issues i face .

cons:

1. hardware decoding / acceleration - nothing works on my mediatek mt6589 chipset which a lot of people use and i think the are also facing this issue ( mediacodec is broken ). automatically uses software cpu decoding

2. subtitle is pretty laggy. i tested an anime with karaoke subs. it lags a lot that video freezes with audio playing. yes my device is capable of it. i was curious and installed to see cpu usage. it was below 20 % and fluctuating between 10 - 20% usage. - can subtitle be rendered using hardware acceleration ?

pros :

1.software decoding is good can be better.

2.subtitle support is the best you can find on android even mx player cant render it as well as vlc

thanks for reading it all and i hope it will be fixed in the near future.

Software decoding is primarily limited by the speed of your hardware.

Also, I don't think any of the developers have hardware with that MT6589 chipset, so we can't debug it.
