Block playback of MKV and TS HD videos

Just got the latest VLC on my brand new tablet. When I play videos from my synology NAS I get blocky playback of MP4, MKV and TS HD videos. The stock player plays the video without blocks, but also without sound (AC3). Can I fix this somehow?

Try hardware acceleration, different chroma, deblocking, frame skip, video output...
