STOP button keep VLC active and prevents standby mode

Postby Rogerduncan » 28 Dec 2012 15:38

First of all, congratulations to the developers. Though there are still some bugs and some things to improve, the VLC player already has a better user interface than other players and really useful functions like "Search".
Now, here is my problem:
When I press the power button at my tablet, normally the screen turns off and after ~5 seconds the green power LED goes off, indicating that the tablet is now in standby mode.
After playing an Audio file with VLC player and stopping it with the STOP button, this does no longer work: when pressing the power button now, the screen turns off but the green power LED stays on all the time, indicating that the tablet could not enter standby mode.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. I restart the system to make sure that no applications are running.
2. I press the power button to ensure that standby is entered as expected -> power LED turns off after 5 seconds.
3. I press the power button again to switch the screen on.
4. I start VLC player Revision 2463622 (2012-12-06).
5. I press "Audio" and select an artist from the list. A new screen is opened, showing the songs from this artist.
6. I select a song. A new screen is opened and the song starts to play.
7. I press the STOP button (rectangle). The previous screen (see 5.) is shown.
8. I press the "previous page" button from the menu. The list of artists is shown again.
9. I press the power button. The screen turns off but the green power LED stays on all the time, eating up the power from the battery.
I found the following ways to remove the problem:
a) Restarting the system or
b) Stopping the VLC app via the android settings dialog.
c) Using the "Pause" button (two vertical lines) instead of "STOP" button (rectangle). In that case the tablet always turns off as expected.
It seems that the STOP button keeps VLC active so that standby mode is no longer possible.
This behavior is most annoying as one can end up with an empty battery this way.

Can you try the latest nightly build?

Fixed in http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc-ports/an ... 00d02c28fc

Thanks a lot for noticing this CRITICAL regression!

I have now uninstalled the previous version and installed Rev. 7d106f3 (2012-12-29) instead, I hope this is the right one.
Then I have reset the device and started the new revision.
Unfortunately I found that the behavior is still exactly the same as I have described above: the device can't enter standby mode after stopping playback with the STOP button.
When using the Pause button standby mode still works.

Anything else I can do to locate the problem?

Try the latest revision; the revision that you have doesn't contain the fix.

I have expected to find the latest revision here: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/armv7-android-neon/
Is there another location with even newer downloads? Or would I have to build the latest revision myself?
If so, I have unfortunately no idea how to do that.

Please let me know how to get the lastest revision - thanks.

Ok, I have now downloaded Rev. 173e89b from the same location as before.
This one does no longer show the problem. Thanks.
