VLC doesn't keep settings from one session to the other

Hi all,

I've been using VLC on my Galaxy S3 for few days now and for most of it I really like it, but the music player behavior is a bit annoying.
Basically I think VLC is not keeping anything from one session to another:
- Each time I start VLC it rebuilds the song library and you can't do anything to skip it (with few GB of music it's very long), I would have expected an option to refresh it only when we click the refresh button (or a refresh in background)
- Most of the time, I play the music using those steps : go to "Songs" display, choose any song, enable shuffle, enjoy... but when I quit VLC and come back later it looses all those settings, I would have expected when I reopen VLC to be on Songs listing (or the last played song), and to still have the shuffle and the repeat enable but it's not the case.

Maybe I missed something during the installation but, if not, I think I'm not the only one who would like to see this behavior improved.

Also I really like the plug/unplug feature (start/stop the music), but after a while it doesn't restart, is there a max duration between 2 plus/unplug?

Thanks for your work.

Flo

Try to clean your data, because this is not normal at all.

Well, at the very least it _should_ preserve the shuffle/random setting. But it's a known idiosyncrasy that it always starts on the "Artist" screen.

Hi, thanks for your answer Jean-Baptiste but what do you mean by:
Try to clean your data, because this is not normal at all.
- My phone is new so it is still quite clean for the moment ;-)
- The data scanned are only mp3 and covers. In preferences I put the Root setting on "/" and I configured only 2 Directories: a Music folder located on my micro sd card (SanDisk ultra 32GB->class 10) which contains few GB of musics and covers, and a directory Video located on my Phone memory (most of the time empty)
- I restarted my phone to clean the memory but no change.

BTW, when I restarted my phone, VLC went to the case where it is very long to scan (filling the memory I believe). The thing which is very rude is that, if the screen goes to sleep mode before the end of the scan, when I wake up the phone it restarts the refresh from the beginning :(

PS: I just updated VLC to the 0.06 version same behavior.

Settings→Apps→VLC→Clear data

Same behavior than restarting except it removes my preferences as well...

Are you sure you're not running low on internal memory?

Hi, no problem with the memory either (RAM, Internal and External are fine), and a colleague of mine is having the same behavior so I think VLC is just not ready to handle big media database yet ;-)

Advises:
- Save the media db from RAM to internal memory so when you restart the phone it just loads it in RAM instead of rebuilding it from scratch (usually the content doesn't change during a restart). If we want to clean the data anyway there is the "Clear data" feature.
- Set the "automatic refresh" as optional, otherwise what's the refresh button for?
- Do the refresh in background so we can still use VLC during the refresh.

In between I'll go back to Winamp, sorry...
