Hello all, just trying to figure out if the beta vlc works on the galaxy prevail android. Or rather which version should i use? Couldn't find anything on this exact phone so not sure what to download. Any help would be great, thanks.

You need the ARMv6 version

Ok, so I tried that and it seemed to install properly but when I tap the icon it acts like it's gonna start then it goes back to my apps. Maybe it's just not compatible enough? I saw there is a ARMv5 version, wonder if that would work.

It's more likely there is a crash, can you please get the logcat log?

Got OI file manager and can't find a crash report anywhere. I haven't been able to get VLC to start at this point, it just acts like it's going to then returns to my apps so not sure what's happening. I'll try what ever suggestions you may have though.

That means that it's a native crash, can you try the logcat with Term.apk part?

I've installed it but keep getting permission denied. Does sudo or su not work with this, or do I have to root my phone?

If you have root, in Terminal you can do this:
First, open VLC for Android and crash it. Then:
Code: Select all
su
cd /sdcard
logcat -d > log.txt
exit
exit
Then upload log.txt to a pastebin.

Let me know if it doesn't work.

VLC seems to be missing in that log. Did you start VLC? If it still doesn't work you might have to do it the old-fashioned way with the Android SDK and adb.

Sorry for not responding in a while, got injured at work. Tried the link you provided but it gives an error. Is this something I can get through the play store? Can't seem to find it there, but anyway I actually tried out the latest nightly build and it actually plays video. A bit glitchy but works. Guess I just have to be patient. Everytime I tap on the screen to change volume or anything for that matter, it interrupts the video playback just so you know what I mean by glitchy.

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail is an entry level device for Boost Mobile. Unlike some of it's Galaxy S cousins, you wont find some of the higher end "Galaxy S" features and it doesn't have the familiar TouchWhiz interface seen on so many other Samsung devices.
The Prevail comes with an 800MHz single-core processor, 3.2-inch 320x480 capacitive display, a 2 megapixel rear camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and launched with Android 2.2 Froyo. Great value for the money.
