Volume control is misplaced in landscape mode

Postby Bibigeee » 08 Feb 2025 21:32

Samsung S10

Just updated to v3.6.3. When in landscape mode, the volume slider is no longer on the right side of the screen. It is almost in the middle.

If the screen were divided into 10 sections, left to right, the slider appears in section 6 - 7(ish).

I have 3.6.3 and I don't see it on a Samsung tablet. The volume indicator is on the left side of the screen but it is operated by drags on the right side. Vice versa for the brightness. The part of the screen you can touch to change volume is pretty broad, perhaps a third of the screen. My observations don't depend on aspect ratio of the video.

What hardware are you running?

The change just happened as I upgraded to the latest version. I've been using VLC for years with no issues.

The last quarter of the screen on the right does not respond to the volume slider. It does, however, respond to the +10sec double tap.

Not sure what hardware specs you are looking for. It's a Galaxy S10 phone.

I am not able to reproduce on any of my devices. Could you please share a screenshot of your issue?

Also, could you please share some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

Bibigeee, is your "latest version" a Nightly later than 2025-02-01? If you can identify the Nightly that started failing, it will simplify the search for the bug.

I put up the pink "Show layout boundaries" developer's option and there is no separate input pane for the slider touch region; VLC must be sensing touches to the entire video window. A log mignt not be instructive at showing something that doesn't happen.

@Bibigeee: please disregard the comment above. You didn't mention nightlies, so dont bother with that. Also, I need to logs because it gives some info about your device, Android version and changed settings.

@Aza

Not much to screenshot, so I edited it to demonstrate the area the volume slider works (green area) and doesn't work (red area). Screenshot link below:

About the logs: they are not complete. Did you export them as a file before sending it?

About your screenshot: where is the slider displayed when you slide? Is it at the right place (just besides the border of the screen)?

Finally, do you get the same issue for the brightness gesture (other side of the screen)?

I just reverted to an older version because I found additional problems.

When I swapped between apps, VLC wouldn't keep the time held (it would revert to 0:00 every time).

To answer your question: the visible slider appeared in the correct place (next to the border). But the "physical" slider was in the wrong position.

The brightness function worked just fine.

I no longer have 3.6.3. Version 3.5.7 is working fine.

Ok, we will take a look though.

You probably have the history disabled. This is something we still need to fix.

I do have the history disabled. I have had it disabled in previous versions as well, but VLC keeps a placeholder on the time. - I just checked with the older version and the time does NOT revert to zero.

Yes, we changed that behavior as they should be tied to each other. But we plan to add a dedicated setting soon.
