VLC 3.5.7 on Android keeps trying to access ports 137 and 5353

Postby Dobermaniak » 25 Nov 2024 20:53

I'm using VLC 3.5.7 for Android from F-Droid store and I keep getting notifications on my firewall for 255.255.255.255:137 and 224.0.0.251:5353 every second or two. I assume this is to search for playback devices on my LAN.

There is nothing to find, I don't use this feature and it's just spamming my fw log and would waste battery if I allowed it online. It even tries these addresses when internet is completely turned off and VLC is not open nor playing, I can stop it by force-stopping VLC. How can I turn this feature off? I just tried unchecking "wireless casting" in settings but that didn't do anything.

Sorry to hear that :/ Do you know in which version that was introduced? I wouldn't mind downgrading for a while.

I can't say for sure without a lot of digging but more than 5 years ago.
