--monitor-par on VLC For Fire

Postby distorted » 12 Nov 2024 17:34

Hello!

Back around February 2024 I setup a FireTV stick with "VLC for Fire" using an old 4:3 display and used the "custom libVLC options" with "--monitor-par=3:4" to fix the distortion resulting from the FireTV stick insisting on 16:9 output and the 4:3 display being too old to do anything smart in response. And it unambiguously worked. 16:9 videos were letter-boxed and undistorted while without the libVLC option they were stretched to fill the screen and distorted.

Today after returning to using the FireTV stick for the first time since around February 2024 everything still works except "--monitor-par=3:4" is not doing anything whatsoever. 16:9 videos are stretched to fill the screen and are distorted.

I have tried uninstalling "VLC for Fire"(which also seemed to clear all my settings) and reinstalling it and reentering the libVLC option without any apparent effect. Also tried rebooting the FireTV stick just in case.

I appreciate any ideas.

Edit: I wanted to try experimenting with previous versions of VLC for Fire but cannot find anything besides 3.5.4. Any links to older versions(especially ones that would have been the default around February) would be appreciated.
