Audio not playing when resuming after using other app

Audio doesn't play when resuming playback of video after using other app and rentering vlc. Have this problem on Google pixel 3XL. I tried reinstalling and updating but it didnt help.

Could you please explain exactly what happens? Changing app shouldn't pause the audio to start with, except if the other app plays audio as well.
