Clear the play queue on Android

Postby jmhardin » 29 Sep 2023 19:37

I usually use Pulsar+ to listen to music on my Samsung A53 (Android 13) but I'm giving VLC 3.5.4 a look since it's my usual media player on my Linux laptop. I don't see any way to clear the play queue for VLC Android short of playing a single song and then removing it from the queue from the triple dot menu. Am I missing something or is there no Clear Queue option like there is on the desktop version?

A quicker way than the triple dot menu is to swipe play-queue entries to either side.

Why do you want to clear the play queue? If you want to stop hearing music, just press stop (or select "Stop after this track" from the menu). If you tap on a song in the Audio or Browse section, it replaces the play queue (unless you use its menu to specify "Append" or "Insert next"). That effectively clears the play queue.

I have my smart watch set up to tell me what song is playing, and if I open VLC with a song in the queue not only am I asked if I want to play the song again, my watch tells me the song is playing, even if it's not playing yet, which gets pretty annoying.

Sorry, don't know anything about smart watches; maybe someone else can comment.

The watch issue is tangential. The primary issue is I'm looking for an easy way to clear the play queue when I'm done listening to an album, etc.

There isn't a way to clear the play queue per say. Either the player is open and there is a play queue, or it's not and there is no play queue. Though something that might suit your need is a long press on the play / pause button in the audio player which will close the player. Hoping this helps.

That's what I was afraid of. It would be nice to see it added for a future update. Thanks for the reply, Skants.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you want.

Do you want to be able to have the audio player opened, while having an empty play queue ? If so, why, how is different from starting a new one from scratch ?
Or is this because of your smartwatch that displays the song even though the player isn't playing ?

No, I just want a way to clear the play queue once I finish playing a set of tracks so I'm not asked about resuming it when I open VLC the next time.

Without clearing the play queue, you can disable this behavior in the Settings. Uncheck:

More > Settings > Interface (section Audio) > Show last playlist tip

Return to “VLC for Android and Chrome OS”
