SMB/MRL Issues

Postby marcypooh-san » 25 Aug 2023 14:56

Hi,

lately i have been having issues connecting to my smb files on my PC via VLC on my smart tv (Sony KD-65A1). It just says: No media files found, please transfer some files to your device or adjust your preferences; Your input can'*t be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL "smb://MARC******'. Check the log for details. Interestingly i can connect to my smb files via VLC on my mobile (Samsung S8+) without any issue. Both are the same build 3.5.4. For people with the same issue looking for a solution i have found a temporary one: Use Cx File Explorer. There you can connect to your smb files using your smb address, username and password (if protected). Then you can play your media files via Cx Explorer. Also interestingly when the media is played over Cx it even works using VLC! I did not change anything and it used to work fine before but i have read that apparently some update broke the smb communication. Is there a fix for the VLC SMB/MRL issue? Also where can i attach my LOGS? I don't see any attach button.

Best regards

Marc

Could you elaborate on your setup. What screen are you on when you get error.

My setup:
Media on vintage version of windows using smb v2 shares
Running vlc 3.5.4 smb v2 on a smart tv running Android 9
In vlc menu under "browsing" I have favorite for SMB
