Access Instability on Chromecast with Google TV

Postby cybercanvas » 19 Feb 2023 05:22

I have VLC for android installed on two Chromecast with GoogleTV dongles. I am trying to use VLC to view local media in folders on my local network. Most of the time this works fine, but now it is increasingly common to receive "Authentication required...", or "No Media Found..." or "Cannot play multiple media" errors. The call for authentication does not work regardless of what I enter (though it is not clear at all what format these entries should take or what information should be entered). I have tried SMB, FTP etc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled VLC. I am at my wit's end.

I would include some log files, but I have no idea how to access them from the Chromecast dongle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This also happens to me occasionally. When it does, the problem is almost always at the server's end, not with chromecast, TV, or VLC. Depending on the setup, network traffic sometimes gets jammed up. From my experience, rebooting the server will do the trick.
