Android version (Samsung S10e) not remembering list of streaming URLs

Postby Milky » 09 Jun 2022 12:42

Hi. I'm a newbie and I have done some searches, but can't find this particular problem.
I have VLC installed on my fully updated Samsung S10e, and all I want to do is stream audio only from 3 different sites.
When I first installed the app, I entered the first URL, and it started to play. It also appeared in the list underneath the area where you enter a new URL.
I pressed 'add' and entered the second URL. It played, but did not appear in the list. Similarly, the third URL did not appear in the list after I had successfully entered it and connected to it.
It would be nice if there was an 'edit link' option as it became necessary to change the URL for one of the links and the only option was to delete the link, and that's when the 'list' option occurs.
I tried to clear cache and re-enter the same URLs. That worked eventually, but, when I wanted to delete one and add a different link, I had to delete them all and start again.

Are your streams URL really close (only the port changes or something like that)? If so, it may already be fixed in the latest beta version (3.5.0 Beta 7).

Well, two of them are the internal address and the external address to the same source, but textually, they are very different. For instance, if I am connected to my personal LAN, I have a link something like "http://192.168.10.100:2200", but, I use dyndns to resolve my WAN address so, if I am away from my home environment, the URL to get to my music stream is something like "http://mystream.dyndns-home.com:2200". So, theoretically, both point to the same source, but are totally different text strings.

I am still not sure I understand correctly, so let me try sum it up.
You want to enter 3 streams. Two of them point to the same file but with different domains. When you enter your 3 streams, you only get one entry in the stream list.

What happens if you insert them in a different order (you may want to remove the entry you already have before testing that)? What happens when you insert the third one (the one not pointing to the same file) first?

Yes, your summary is almost correct the first time around. I have managed to completely un-install and then re-install the program and enter all three URLS immediately after each other (press "+", enter stream URL and hit the "enter" button) times three. After entering each one, it appeared in the list.

They all displayed in the list. However, I then realised that I had entered one incorrectly, I deleted that one, and all three disappeared from the list. Perhaps an "edit" option to correct the bad entry would help this?

I re-entered them, but none appeared in the list. I had to clear all data in advanced settings and start all over for them to come back into the list. This was occurring on the production version, but has not changed in 3.5.0-7 beta.

It will be hard to debug without your URLs. Could you please give them? You can do it in a private message to me if you want.

Excellent! Thank you. I assume that the update will flow on at some stage, as my beta version still reports 3.5.0/7.

Yes, we have some more fixes to do before releasing a new beta. But it should come quickly.

I see we are now on 3.5.0.RC1. I tried to add another stream address, and it did not appear in the history list. Was the fix included in RC1?

Yes it should. Were these streams already played once? If so, you may want to clear your history before trying again.

I cleared cache, but that didn't work. I eventually cleared the lot and then re-entered my settings. It's working fine now.

This still appears to be a problem in RC1. After the update, I found it necessary to completely clear all settings before I was able to successfully add 2 stream links. I recently found another stream I like, so I attempted to add it after a break of a couple of weeks. The link plays, but does not add to history, and is a very long link to type each time.

Is the length of the link the possible problem? It plays perfectly, but won't store in history.

I sent you a PM, but it appears to be stuck in Outbox. Not sure why. Does it have to be checked by Admin before forwarding?

Don't worry, I got it. It's retained in the outbox until I open it.
