3.5.0 RC 1 sees no media nor subdirectories

Postby Spike1 » 27 Jun 2022 05:37

The RC 1 as of 2022-06-22 sees neither audio files nor subdirectories in the Browse section. Audio section works fine. Change the list of "Media library folders" to be scanned? This shows no subdirectories on the microSD either. Fails on a Samsung J7 with Android 8 and a Samsung J3 with Android 9. This had been working fine under 3.5.0 Beta 7.

Do the folders appear if you pull to refresh?

Got the same issue the first time I use rc1.

If you refresh once, it should work good after that.

Refreshing does make VLC reacquire all songs, but Browse and Media library folders still don't show any files or folders.

This is a really weird issue. Could you please provide a screen record to see if I can spot something?

Hi,
I have a similar problem, there's a screen record
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ojqokei8dif0e ... c.mp4?dl=0
I have also the listing problem (same as https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=160167)
And an other regression : the instant playlist when you clic on a file in a folder has disappeared

@Aza, I am running the same nightly RC 1 that you recommended in the nearby thread (pointed to in the above message) (06-27, though for armv7 not armv8, timestamp different by a few minutes) and the fix is not yet evident.

@loicb54: The other change you mention is deliberate. We discussed pros and cons here: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=160069

I post this screen recording to help in another topic.
The first part on the browser tab could help you...

We were able to reproduce. We are working on fixing this issue.

Both folder visibility problems are solved in the 2022-07-05 nightly. It defaults to sort by descending name but obeys my correction.

I deselected the entire microSD back when the folders stopped being displayed, and was now trying to separately enable the 30 music folders. I crashed VLC twice, I guess by enabling them while a previous enable had started a refresh. (The 3rd try, VLC would not let me back into directory selection until the refresh was done. Good.) In the Audio section, the count of total tracks to be acquired was low by about 1/2.

Glad to read it!

If you did not uninstall the app, it should have saved the crash. Could you please share the files at : [Internal Storage]/Android/data/org.videolan.vlc.debug/files that are named vlc_crash_[some_numbers].log?

Just FYI for anyone who might be having this issue. Make sure you don't have the ".nomedia" file in any of your folders!!

This is a crash with the 3.4.4 beta 1 version. It's really old.

The code this crash sends to doesn't exist anymore. Without a more recent stack trace, I won't unfortunately be able to do anything.
