Video player controls stop working if i pinch in on a video

Video player controls don't show anymore if i pinch in (or out) on a video im watching. I need to close the video and reopen it to get them back. I have volume and brightness gestures off, If I enable one of them it works. This happens both on android 6 and 11 so im sure its not device specific. This has been happening for over a year and still does on version 3.4.3.

i this is not device specific it also happens to me. also if you press the next video multiple times the controls just hides and sometines it hides under the navigation bar in portait mode.
