Browse problem

Postby rhoneyman » 03 Nov 2021 17:20

Browse lets me choose storage location (Android) but very infrequently allows me to go below that level in the file structure. I switched to the latest beta to see if that offered a fix. It does not.

Could you provide make/model and Android version? "Android" is not the real root directory but the root of the subsystem to which you have access. If "below" means navigating to parent directories, you would usually not be allowed to. If it means out to the branches and to your media, what you report is peculiar. My installation lets me step even to directories that have nothing to do with VLC, such as Notifications and DCIM.

I'm running a Galaxy A71 5G (SM-A716U1) under Android 11. I'd add a screenshot, except I don't know how. I tried adding a link to my Google photos file, but that doesn't seem to work. Description: a list of all the folders sitting on my SD card with Music folder highlighted. I would expect that clicking on that folder would take me down to the subfolders (and their subfolders) containing the flac files. Instead, ... wait. I just went back to my phone and clicked on the Music folder, unhighlighting it. I then clicked on it and wound up in the subfolders. I clicked on one of the subfolders (JS Bach, as it turns out), and the folder is highlighted. Perhaps it just takes minutes for the app to navigate in browse mode. I just unclicked Bach and clicked it again to get to the list of various works.

Perhaps I just need to have patience.

I have to turn off my phone once a week. When I turn it back on, the tracks that I was listening to (I launch from browse, not playlist) are not remembered - minor nit - so I have to go back and find where I was. I haven't figured out how to find history - I once saw it, but that was a while ago - else I'd use that as my memory jog. I'm in the middle of some 70 hours of Bach's choral music and I have this thing about listening in order from start to finish. I should probably see someone about that. :P

I would expect what you expect.

We have discussed recently that the "breadcrumb" (one-line pathname) is broken and you can't click on components to navigate there. We have discussed today that VLC may be slow with gigantic media sets. To listen in sequence, be sure to name your files so they sort in the desired order, and disable Shuffle (crossed-arrows icon). Apart from that, I can't offer more advice; perhaps a Developer will be along.

You can add some screenshot by uploading them to imgur for example.

A screencast would be useful too to understand what is going on.

You can click on the upper right corner 3-dot icon, then "Resume playback" for that.
