How to auto-discover DLNA server on VLC for Fire TV?

Postby decastar » 27 Apr 2021 05:09

Hi

On my Android devices (phones, tablets) VLC automatically discovers the DLNA media server running on my Synology NAS. I don't have to enter server address or ports or anything.

How can I make do the same on VLC for Fire TV Stick? When I go to Browsing > Streams, it is asking for a URL including protocol, server address, and ports. I only know the server address, not the protocol and ports.

I thought this was all meant to be discovered via uPnP so I wouldn't have to know this stuff. It does that on my normal Android devices. How can I get it to auto-discover the media server on VLC for Fire TV?

Thanks!

On my firetv the DLNA devices appear automatically under the "Local Network" folder accessible throught the VLC interface.

My NAS also appears under the Network folder, but as an SMB device (filesystem), not a streaming DLNA device. I can browse folders and play videos, but I have to supply a username and password.

I want the DLNA device to appear as a true streaming device under the Streams folder, not an SMB device under the Network folder.

@vlc developers any ideas? Is VLC meant to auto discover local network streams on Fire TV like it does on my other Android devices?

I should appear automatically. Can you please share some logs?

Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).

Hi @Aza
When I go to Browse/Streams, it immediately displays dialog box to enter URL.
