Filename Changes After Being Played On Chromecast With Google TV

Postby potzki75 » 27 May 2021 07:01

Hello,
I have just installed VLC on my new Chromecast. This is my first time using VLC on an Anroid TV device, but I have used it alot on movile and tablets.

I have an external hard drive attached to my modem which acts as a DLNA server for all my media. The issue I am having is that once I play the file, the filename changes onscreen to a string of numbers. For example - If I go through my directories and find the file "Die Hard.mp4", then play it, once I go back to the folder with that file, it now displays as "2123.mp4". It also seems to be put into a different sub section with the heading of "#". See below for example

D
Daddy's Home.mp4
Daddy's Home 2.mp4

#
2123.mp4

D
Die Hard 2.mp4
Die Hard 3.mp4

I can't find a setting that stops this from happening. It is very confusing trying to find the right file that you have already watched.

Can anyone help me please.

Thanks,

This is a known issue that will be fixed in the next version.

Since two months now I have a Chromecast with Google TV. It works great. Highly recommended.

But, I have the same problem that OP mentioned. When I play a movie from my DLNA server and I pause, I see the correct title. If I stop the movie at some point though, this movie and some other movies change their titles.
E.g., the movie is Die Hard.m4v and after stopping VLC shows 22.mp4. Also listed are 26.mp4 and 28.mp4.

VLC still works, so it's not a showstopper, but it's annoying.

Has there not been an new version of VLC in the meantime? Currently on version 3.3.4. #justcurious.

No. We are entering the beta phase of 3.4.0.
