VLC Android: controls always visible when playing a video?

Postby Ulli_123 » 03 Dec 2020 20:39

When playing a video the controls disappear after approximately 1 second. Is there a setting that the controls, in particular the pause button, will always be visible?
Reason: I need to stop a video exactly when a certain picture appears. However, this requires two clicks: one to reactivate the controls, and another one to stop it. This takes too long.

There will be a setting for that in 3.3.3 under Settings > Video > Video player controls hiding delay

Hello Aza,
great to hear, thanks a lot! So, I just installed 3.3.3 Beta 3.
And yes, it already helps me.
But I think there is a small misbehaviour with that:
When I start a video (or restart after pausing), the controls are not there, and they only appear after clicking on the screen.
(Still better than before, since now I can start the video by double clicking, and then the controls remain there.)
However, in my opinion they should be there by default.
And only disappear when clicking somewhere on the screen.
Would be great if this could be implemented.
Thank you! Sheers,
Ulli

I hope it will be possible to keep the screen and controls active permanently. I use my Android tablet as a gigantic remote control for my chromecast, there really is zero need for the screen to turn off except via the timeout in Android itself. Personally, I hope VLC will be able to override that and keep it alive (optional is always best) at all times when casting.

Casting is largely working well, it has some glitches, but this "feature" is the most annoying Android problem in my opinion. I just joined the beta program... so I will test it ouit.

No, of course not, it should not be the default way.

I agree. This setting is not meant to change the behavior when the video is launched, it's just about the controls hiding timeout.
