cannot confirm selection for media library directories

device: S9 with Android 10, VLC for Android 3.3.2
problem : I try to select the directories on the SD-card for the media library. VLC shows the directories, I can select the ones I want ... but there is no confirmation button. I have to go back to leave the selection ... and the directories aren't selected. ( I can access the files via "files", so it's not the problem the vlc cannot access the SD-card at all)
question : what to do ?

To select a directory, make sure it's parents are not selected. As soon, you select a folder, you don't need to validate your selection, it should be taken into account.

Thank you ! Yes, I selected a directory without selecting its parent. And it was NOT taken into account. Nothing happened, and I had to leave the the selection by going back. To an empty library .

Found it : there's a ".nomedia" file that tells the Samsung gallery not to look for images in the music directories. My other music player apps can ignore this, VLC can't. Might be a good thing to add such an option. This topic may be closed as far as I'm concerned.
