VLC for Android can't download subtitles anymore

Hi everyone,
I am experiencing this problem about subtitles on VLC on my Android TV while playing a movie from an external HDD.
When I choose "download subtitles" VLC lists them according to my language preferences successfully. Then I choose one of them. The little revolving circle appears for a brief moment so one thinks it downloads the selected subtitle but then there is nothing there. I can't find the subtitle in the native "subtitles" folder or in the folder in ext.HDD in which the movie file is. Earlier, this problem didn't exist.
Any solution would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
