Can't add folder to medialibrary

I'm using VLC for android and trying to add a folder to the medialibrary but it keeps unticking the folder and the music obviously wont show in the playlist.
It works if I use my normal music folder, but not with the folder I'm forced to use (read bellow).
The path that works is: Memcard/Music/
The path that don't work is: Memcard/Android/data/com.synology.dscloud/files/Music/

Can it be the com.synology.dscloud foldername that is the problem?

Maybe important info...
I just set up sync with DS Cloud on my phone to sync my music from my Synology NAS. DS Cloud don't allow me to set it to sync to my normal music folder, it forces me to sync to the folder it chooses.

Did you dismiss the option to let VLC automatically choose the media folders at the first start ?

The new version no longer sees any of the media files on my SD card. Go into Settings | Media library folders and check various boxes - go back out - then back in - and nothing has persisted. Uninstalled/reinstalled, rebooting: neither of these fixes the problem.
LG Aristo running Android 7.0. 128 gb micro-SD card. Auto rescan is on.
