500 Video Library Limit? VLC Beta

Postby skygear » 05 Nov 2019 21:12

Is there a 500 Video Limit to the video library? I use InStube to DL Youtube content. Transfer it over to my 256GB Sandisk Extreme SDXC using Solid Explorer. Everything has worked in the past. A few versions ago, I DL'd and Transferred over a large number of music videos to the same folder due to an upcoming road trip at the time. I am Not able to play those files as I am past the 500 mark into the 690 range. It will index all of them and show they are there. When I click on the video. It plays the first file in my library. That is File 501. 500 plays fine. 1-500 all play fine.

I thought it was a corrupt file or disk causing this issue. So I finally did a CHKDSK in windows. No issues found. Formatted and moved the folder back on. Tried playing it again. Same issue. Now I used DISK UTILITY on Mac to format the same card and changed File systems, then formatted back again to EXFAT- Copied over ~100 files at a time and put the card back in and played them through VLC on my device. No issue. Swapped the card back and forth until I got to the ~500 mark. all played fine. Got to the last ~200 files and copied them all over. Went to play them again. Now its doing the sub 500 play/ 501+ no play. Is this a known issue?

I can click the 3 buttons on the video, select "Play as audio" then select the "Video" on screen and it plays fine. Only one file though. Same with the play list. If I select a working file sub 500, hit "Shuffle" then "Play as audio" - None of the 501+ files even show in the shuffle or library list on the screen.

Can this be changed somewhere? I've looked at all the settings. Coded to allow a larger library>? Is this an EXFAT issue? I've already uninstalled VLC,Cleared out app remnants, deleted everything related on the SDXC card. Cache, Data, reinstalled etc.

I only realized it might be a 500 issue once I went back to the backup and started to count where I was at in the files to verify how many I had. Oddly specific limit. Please advise!!!!

On a whim I tried splitting the folders up to multiple and that didn't help. Wont index more than 500 video files. Haven't tried with audio only files.

FYI Just tried other players and didn't experience this issue. MX Player and a few others play all the files just fine. Not experience a limit or library limitation

I have the exact same issue with android running on top of an nvidia shield. I have a usb drive with a few thousand video files on it that use to be perfect with VLC and I use it all the time. I upgraded this week and now it only shows about 5% of my files and I have given it time to populate, etc. Also noticed the movement inside the GUI is clicking and much slower, which is also bad when you have a lot of content. I also notice that some of the content changes each time I browse into the HD. Trying everything I can to revert back to the old version as 3.2.3 is really horrific. This new version is a complete disaster

:geek: I'm using MX Player Pro temporary. None of those issues thus far, but I want my VLC back and operating flawlessly on android. :geek:

As odd as It is, I'm glad others are experiencing this so it can get resolved.

I am having problems with 3.2.3 as well (on an Nvidia Shield) but I was hoping 3.2.2 would be ok, but it seems 3.2.1 had these problems as well??? Maybe I will downgrade to 3.1.7.

I find Kodi to be a great media player. I love the time navigation much more than the one on VLC (only +10 sec options) and I like the simple list view vs the large icons on VLC. Also VLC can't really play .TS files over the network (they will play but there is no way to navigate in time) and Kodi handles .TS files just fine. The only two things that keeps me using VLC on my Shield is the ability to play the video at various speeds and also how easy it is to download subtitle files.

How do you launch playback of all your videos?

Kodi does work as fine, but I like the old VLC much better as the previous version was awesome and I cannot find a way to revert. This is what you get for upgrading.

Assuming VLC fixes the subtitle and browsing issues in 3.2.4 it only lacks 2 things to make it a near perfect media player (for me):

1. Better time navigation. For something like the Shield, having only +/- 10 sec or going to the time line and make huge, unpredictable jumps makes it difficult to do things like move 5 minutes forward in a 3 hour video. I guess most use this on a touch screen device and sliding on the time bar works fine, so I doubt this will change.
2. The ability to have any time navigation for .TS files played over the network. Unfortunately I think a developer has said this is a pretty big change and won't happen for a while.

You have a 'jump to' option in player. You can set a specific time where you wanna go.

Anything to be done about the 500 limit?

So far, If I have the video groups set to none. it will only lay the first 500 files and nothing more. If I select any of the other grouping options, it plays all of my media library of a couple thousand files.

Is there a fix to this? I do not like my videos grouped.

What version of the app are you using?
The 500 limit is the paging limit (ie: if you have 10,000 items we don't want to load them all) and when you scroll the 500 next items should be the displayed.

I have the latest version. Same thing happens though when I hit play, shuffle, then let it go. It will force close or default to the first video in the library.

Ok, but which one? The beta (3.3.0 RC1) or the current stable release (3.2.12)?
