This happens for me as well. Samsung Note 5

Edit: I thought I replied to a specific post, oops. The issue is that the sleep timer causes a need to force quit the app to resume play after sleep.

Same issue with sleep timer. It will stop media playback, but will not play media after timer completion, nor will VLC close without phone restart or app force close. I have to use a third party sleep timer app just to have this feature function properly. It is very frustrating to wake up in the morning and have an unresponsive VLC stuck on my phone.

Hello,
Sadly I also have to add to this (quite old) topic. My issue is about the performance of file browsing and interaction with other UI-elements.
I still use a Galaxy S5 Mini. I know, it's old - but I thought, I still should be able to play media files as before when I updated VLC for Android some weeks before.

I used version 3.0.13 for a long time. With this version I can browse my directory structure as with any other good file manager. Then I updated to 3.1.7 and it immediately felt like something was broken! The whole handling of the app got so very very slow. Now I already tested version 3.2.3 - and it's the same!
So I spent some time doing tests; uninstalling and re-installing and configuring lots of different versions [no downgrade possible!? no export of settings! :-(]. The problem with the next-to-unusable UI did occur from 3.0.13 to 3.1.0.

Previously it was only a fraction of a second when I tipped a subdirectory - now I have to wait several seconds - for every single event!
I do not need or use media libraries; I simply browse my own directory structure. This should be very efficient. But even when I know the whole path and filename, so it normally took 5 s to navigate and start the playback - I now need half a minute and more! This counts for the navigation in every direction! Even when I only go back to the parent directories, I have to wait several seconds for every step. This is really annoying!
Also scrolling a directory's content got very slow.

As mentioned before, I already searched and configured the settings for a remedy. I disabled the scrolling file names and video previews - but it still takes whole seconds to switch between directories with a content of maybe 5 or 10 files or subdirectories. In my file manager (TotalCommander) I can fluently switch between and scroll through directories with hundreds and thousands of files! And with VLC I need half a minute just to close the application (repeatedly hitting [BACK] to go back to the root directory and then close the app)!

Even animations like opening the menu and scrolling the settings (which do look the same as before) have started to stutter. But that's not critical for me. I just need to be able to browse my directory structure!
(As a workaround I already started to browse with the TotalCommander, only playing single files from the file manager. - But that's not the same like playing prepared directories with the VLC.)

I only can imagine that the obviously much higher utilization of the smartphone - to do the same things as before - will also drain the battery faster.
At last, also the overlay UI while playing a video is reacting much slower. Previously it came up when I tipped the screen - now I have to wait 2 s.

I cannot visually see the advantages, anything to justify the greatly grown hardware requirements.

For me it seems that VLC is dropping the support of older devices. Is this by design?
I would like to be able to profit from new functionality as well as keep my device running.

Please excuse all these exclamation marks in my comment. I'm just frustrated about my beloved VLC which I do recommend and install on other peoples' devices since years now - seeing how well it still performs on the more current devices - not being able to use it efficiently myself anymore.

I also forgot to mention that playback control is sometimes next-to-impossible using gestures!
You can imagine how frustrating it is, trying to set the volume when the UI-element is always reacting with one or two seconds delay. You have to be very lucky (your gesture hits the desired volume without having a UI-feedback) or need a lot of tries. Setting a specific volume is more like pressing and holding your thumb against the display for some seconds, then slightly moving it in the desired direction, stopping every second second to wait for the volume value, ... by any chance you'll have the desired setting after 10 to 15 seconds - iff it was not too far away from the original.

Does it offer the ability to enable/disable the playing of notifications while listening/watching something with VLC ?

For some reason the forum isn't recognizing ^^^ correctly formatted hyperlinks. :?:

I have the same problem as others. VLC can no longer see the SD Card on my Motog5 phone or my Kindle Fire 5th generation.
This problem has appeared since the last update.
I only use VLC for Audio.
I can still see the resume? button on the Fire and if I press it I hear music that VLC says does not exist, so it isn't me and it isn't the SD Card.

Love the redesign and easier way to access different types of content. One thing I have noticed though:

- on the first run the new version is scanning my audio library to create a db from the scratch. It is not being indicatied anythere though (no progress bar or percentage are shown), so it's to one's personal guess when exactly it's happening and stopping, and this is a bit inconvenient.
Of course, there's no need to create a db everytime, basically this is happening only because the new version is out, but still.

Audio section behaviour (UX) issue:

- on tapping the chosen artist the player opens "tracks" tab, not the "albums" tab like before. What matters is - on the "tracks" tab, if you tap a song to play, only that one song will be played, and then the playing will stop. It may seem logical, however, it's inconvenient, because usually there's a whole album that needs to be played. Showing "tracks" tab first just adds another excessive tap on the way to play a desired album. It also breaks a native convenient habit of choosing the first song of an album to play the whole album.

Also - could you make VLC reporter icon optional (switch in settings) ? I've deleted it thinking that I'll get rid of it only to realise that the player is also gone :) after all it does nothing except leading user to this forum

The video selection doesn't align. If I choose to play the 10th video, it'll go back to the 2nd. And group videos don't play.
